Wilderness Initiatives for Leadership Development (WILD) is a senior-level outdoor education course designed to promote student engagement through experiential and project-based learning. WILD integrates Environmental Science 11, Physical Geography 12, Outdoor Education 12, and Mechanics.
Throughout the semester, students will participate in Wilderness Advanced First Aid, Snowmobile Safety Course, Avalanche Safety Training, and River Rescue courses. The students will partake on a back country trail-based snowmobile trip, avalanche awareness and snowmobile safety trip, and a student planned river expedition. Students will be expected to take the initiative and become an integral part of the planning and leadership component of their trips. The program is designed to prepare students with the skills to become more competent leaders in the adventure recreation and tourism industry. These skills are transferable to any outdoor-based occupation.
