Exciting Announcement: Welcoming Marie-Eve Owen as Vice Principal!
We are pleased to share that Marie-Eve Owen has joined the Porter Creek Secondary School administrative team as our new half-time Vice Principal.
In the past two years, Porter Creek Secondary has grown significantly, expanding from 450 students to nearly 600. This growth reflects the vibrant, diverse community we are part of, and we are proud to strengthen our leadership team to better support the needs of our students.
Ms. Owen has been an integral part of our school since 2019, teaching a range of Science and French courses. She brings a deep commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for all students and staff, grounded in respect for different worldviews, experiences, and backgrounds.
As Vice Principal, Ms. Owen will work alongside our community to continue fostering an environment where every student—regardless of their background—feels valued, supported, and empowered to succeed. Her leadership will be instrumental in ensuring that our school continues to grow in a way that reflects the diverse voices and needs of all who are part of it.
We are excited to welcome Ms. Owen in this new role and look forward to the positive contributions she will make in shaping the future of Porter Creek Secondary!
Principals Message
Hello Students, Staff and Parents,
We seem to have skipped over Spring and right into Yukon summer, with daily highs predicted to be in the mid 20s this week and almost 18 hours of daylight! It’s hard to stay focused with all the light and warm weather, but we encourage students to continue to be diligent in their studies and do their best to maintain the high academic standard that our school community is known for. There are about 4 weeks left but it is never too late to make a change for the better. Attendance is also critical for success – so students can be prepared for exams and the transition into next school year.
As we enter the last month of school, there is lots of excitement! We are looking forward to celebrating successes and achievements, as well as building our school community at Colours day, Cap and Gown, Survivathon, Spring Music Concerts, Prom, field trips, and so many other events planned to round out the year.
We’ve come a long way this school year and have much to celebrate. We continue to work with parents and students, students, and First Nations partners to create a school community that values academic distinction and healthy lifestyles, a school that embraces change and accepts people for who they are, values every student and believes that every child can be successful.
As a testament to forward thinking and connection to community, this summer, we’ll have Phase 1 of our traditional camp built on the north-west side of the school, to include an outdoor classroom and fire pit as well as structures for our annual PCSS hide camp. Those will be essential elements to build around as we look to the future and meeting the needs of students going forward.
Enjoy the warm weather and see you all very soon!
All the best, Peter Giangrande
