The Porter Creek Secondary School Council represents the communities' views and needs. It meets monthly as per the school calendar and is open to any adult community member living in the PCSS catchment area. In general terms, the functions of the Council are as follows:
To review and discuss school policies, facilities, programs, and procedures.
To provide a forum for community members to learn and make inquiries about processes and procedures affecting their children.
To help create a sense of community within our school neighbourhood so that co-operatively a voice is provided about community attitudes and needs as they relate to the school.
Meetings are open to any member of the public. Students are also welcome to attend meetings. Individuals wishing to participate as a member of the PCSS School council must satisfy the following criteria: 1. Canadian citizenship 2. be 18 years of age or older; 3. a) a resident in the attendance area of the school for at least 3 months, OR; b) a parent of a child attending the school
Vision The Porter Creek Secondary School Council, through a recognition of representing and answering to a multicultural community, are committed to respectfully promoting an open platform for communication in consideration of all voices and groups within the school and community while ensuring that the student’s best interests remain the guiding principle.

Be on time and if you have to arrive late, don’t be disruptive when you join the meeting

Quorum is a majority: 5 of out a council of 8
Chair only votes if a tiebreaker is required
Attendance: council members will let another council member know if they are unable to attend. Let members know at the beginning of the meeting if you have to leave early.
Respectful and active listing in all communication
Meetings are not to exceed 3 hours, at which point remaining agenda items will be tabled at the next meeting or in a separate meeting.
Delegates will be given 10 minutes for presentations
Council members will remain conscientious of their sworn Confidentiality Oaths.
Resolutions to be recorded on separate forms as well as documented in minutes
Cell phones are to be on vibrate during any meetings
The Porter Creek Secondary School Council is offering a Scholarship for the Grads of 2018 in the amount of $500 to pursue post-secondary education.The purpose of the scholarship is to give financial assistance to a student who has graduated from Porter Creek Secondary School and who is pursuing your educational goals, such as trades school apprentice. The scholarship is advertised annually during the spring semester and awarded the following autumn. Criteria: Eligibility criteria are based on a student’s declaration of need and their contribution to the PCSS community. Procedure: Students complete a written application for this award.A letter of acceptance from the post-secondary institution must also be attached to the application. Scholarship Award: The recipient is determined by School Council, based on the details provided in the application form. Award Amount: The award is $500.00
