Grades 8 & 9 Average of the TOP five (5) non-elective courses within the school year (top 5 chosen out of these 6: Math, English, Social Studies, Physical Education, Science and a Language). A student is disqualified from Honour Roll if they are assessed as “Emerging” in one or more classes. Assessments will be converted to points based on the following system: Developing = 2 pts. Proficient = 3pts. Extending = 4 pts.
Honours = 16-17 pts First Class Honours = 18-19 pts Honours With Distinction = 20 pts.
Grades 10: Average of the 6 required grade level courses (Math, Science, Social Studies, English, Physical Education and Career Life Education) with no failed courses within the school year.
Grades 11/12: Average of the following: English, 2 academic courses, 2 other courses. With no failed courses within the school year.
Honours = 80% - 85% First Class Honours = 86% - 93% Honours With Distinction = 94% and higher.
Our Honour Roll Students are recognized and celebrated each year at the PCSS Open House and BBQ.
Highest Achievement Award Criteria:
Grade 8: The Highest Achievement Award for grade 8 students is calculated using the point system above. The award will go to the student(s) with the highest number of points for the top 5 non-elective courses at the grade 8 level no matter what year the course was completed.
Grade 9: The Highest Achievement Award for grade 9 students is calculated using the point system above. The award will go to the student(s) with the highest number of points for the top 5 non-elective courses at the grade 9 level no matter what year the course was completed. In the event of a tie, grade 10 courses taken during the grade 9 year will be averaged to break the tie.
Grades 10: The Highest Achievement Award for grade 10 students is calculated using the average of the 6 required grade level courses (Math, Science, Social Studies, English, Physical Education and Career Life Education) with NO failed classes within the school year.
Grades 11 & 12: The Highest Achievement Award for grade 11 and 12 students will be calculated using the average of all the courses taken within that grade level. In case of a tie, multiple awards may be given.
Our Highest Academic Students and their families are acknowledged and celebrated each year at a special catered dinner hosted by the PCSS Administration.
*Students who earn an emerging or failing grade will not be included in Honour Roll in any course
